Welcome to Sunday Assembly Fort Worth

A Secular Assembly for Community, Fellowship, and Understanding

Our Aim

Secular Community

The aim of Sunday Assembly Fort Worth (SAFW) is to build a supportive, secular community where people can connect, grow, and take positive action in the world.  We strive to achieve this by creating a welcoming, intentionally secular space where people experience belonging, friendships and connection without relying on religious beliefs. Similar to traditional community spaces, we value fellowship and mutual support but our foundation is rooted in shared human values like curiosity, compassion, empathy, and reason.

Intellectual and Personal Growth

At SAFW, we encourage intellectual and personal growth by exploring evidence-based ideas and engaging in thoughtful conversations about society, ethics, empathy and shared human experiences. We believe that we grow stronger through learning , reflection and open dialogue with others who bring different perspectives and different lived experiences.

Take Action

We also believe our community should take action. We seek out opportunities for service through volunteering, mutual aid, service projects and collaborative partnerships. These opportunities make a positive impact at a local level.

Civic Engagement

SAFW encourages thoughtful, objective civic engagement with real-world issues through reasoned discussion and empathy.  We do this with a focus on restorative justice and human well-being. We support ideas, policies, and leaders that reflect our shared values regardless of political party or affiliation.

Joy and Celebration

We want to help people live fuller lives. We aim to support each other in meaningful ways, make space for joy and celebration, encourage personal growth, and remain open to new ideas and perspectives.

Upcoming:

On July 12th, Craig Lee will discuss...

Breaking Bias: Thinking Clearly in a Complex World

Cognitive biases are a normal part of human thinking. They are mental shortcuts that are often useful, but not always reliable. They cannot be eliminated, but they can be managed through awareness, reflection, and intentional habits.

We cannot expect to be perfectly objective, but we can learn to be more aware of the limitations of our thinking. As we genuinely consider our own perspectives and those of others with care, we become better thinkers, better communicators, and better decision-makers.
