From John Barnes:
“White Women” by Regina Jackson -A no-holds-barred guidebook aimed at white women
who want to stop being nice and start dismantling white supremacy from the team behind
Race2Dinner and the documentary film, Deconstructing Karen NF
From Jeff Edwards:
• “Innumeracy: Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences “- John Allen Paulos
- A very clear and concise exploration of how poorly many among us
understand math and statistics, and by extension use faulty logic to reach
conclusions. It may sound dry, but it is actually fascinating and has
incredibly far-reaching implications. NF
• “The Skeptics Guide to the Universe - How To Know What's Really Real in a
World Increasingly Full of Fake” - Steven Novella - From the folks who do the
podcast of the same name. Explores some basics of logic, pseudoscience and
rational thinking in a very engaging manner. NF.
• “Deconverted: A Journey From Religion to Reason” - Seth Andrews - (honestly,
any of Seth's books could be included - I also really like "Confessions of a
Former Fox News Christian" and "Christianity Made Me Talk Like an Idiot") -
Funny, engaging and relatable story of his journey from Christian radio DJ to
now being one of the most prominent voices in the atheist and counterapologetics
movement with, among other things, his podcast "The Thinking
Atheist” NF
• “American Crusade: How the Supreme Court Is Weaponizing Religious
Freedom” - Andrew Seidel - Andrew, a lawyer who works for Americans United
for Separation of Church and State, gives concrete examples of how recent (and
not so recent) Supreme Court decisions run counter to precedent, impartiality
and frankly reason, to fill an agenda rather than provide fair resolutions. NF
• “The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism is Un-American” - Andrew
Seidel - His first book, in which he deconstructs the myth that the USA is a
Christian nation founded on such principles. NF
• “Unfollow: A Memoir of Loving and Leaving the Westboro Baptist Church” -
Megan Phelps-Roper - A truly enthralling story of how she escaped her family
and the awful, bigoted church her father headed up - a really good exploration
of how harmful dogma and indoctrination can be. NF
• “But What If We're Wrong” - Chuck Klosterman - Asks the reader to imagine
themselves in the future looking back at their present selves and to consider
what they might have been wrong about and what implications that has. He
uses pop culture and society as an entertaining backdrop for this. NF
• “The Year of Living Biblically” - AJ Jacobs - A humorous and actually rather
touching account of the author's actual attempt to live the Bible as literally as
possible for one entire year. NF

“Indian Givers” by Jack Weatherford-How Native Americans transformed the world. An
amazing read about all we can credit the Native Americans for giving to us, from our
roads to our government system, in part. NF
“An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz - This
is the book that started my interest in the Doctrine of Discovery and the desire to learn
more about Indigenous People worldwide…not an easy read but to me an essential
book to begin to understand the true history of our country. NF
“Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer - Indigenous wisdom, Scientific
Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants…a favorite…a beautifully written book telling
of the importance of the need for a connection with Nature. NF
“Two Old Women” by Velma Wallis - An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage, and
Survival - A short (100+ pages) but an important tale of resilience and ingenuity. F
“There, There” by Tommy Orange- A modern story of Urban Indians; placing Native
American voices front and center before the reader’s eyes. F
